THE STATE OF THE DISUNION

Written by Halli Casser-Jayne on . Posted in HC-J Blog

President Joe Biden delivered his first address to a joint session of Congress on Wednesday night, but since this was his first address, it is not technically called a “State of the Union” speech. It is an “annual message.” Did you know that? This week on The Halli Casser-Jayne Show we take a look at Biden’s not a State of the Union speech and a whole lot more when Halli and her partner in politics, former White House correspondent and Newsweek and Time alum, Matthew Cooper, slice and dice the political news of the week.

STATE OF THE DISUNION

President Joe Biden spoke to a joint session of Congress but because of the Covid-19 Pandemic, he spoke to less than 200 lawmakers and the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, history made when behind the President stood Vice-President Kamala Harris and Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, a first for all women, a first for women of color. How did Biden do? Halli called the president a gracious man. You’ll want to tune in to hear Matt’s impressions and a rare disagreement between Matt and Halli over Republican Senator Tim Scott’s response to President Biden’s speech. But that’s not all. Former Mayor of New York, Rudy Giuliani, once a beloved figure in America had his home and office searched by federal agents as part of lobbying probe, and according to sources Giuliani’s electronic devices were confiscated by authorities. We discuss Covid-19 and the stubborn who won’t get a jab, and those who are having difficulty returning to normal life. Democratic Party policy guru James Carville has a few things to say about “wokeness.” Will Dems take his advice?

Vladimir Putin, Alexei Navalny, Ukraine, Rep. Liz Cheney, Rep. Matt Gaetz, Rep. Val Demings, California Gavin Newsom…even Willie Nelson makes an appearance. THE PRINCESS AND HER PEEVE + THE FILIBUSTER

Written by Halli Casser-Jayne on . Posted in HC-J Blog

The Royals Harry and Meghan, Cuomo under fire, Joe Biden’s extraordinary win, oh, and the filibuster, and that’s just where we begin this week on The Halli Casser-Jayne Show Podcast when Halli and her partner in politics, former White House correspondent and Newsweek and Time alum, Matthew Cooper, slice and dice the political news of the week, and Halli talks with Former deputy chief of staff to Senator Harry Reid, Adam Jentleson, the author of KILL SWITCH: THE RISE OF THE MODERN SENATE AND THE CRIPPLING OF AMERICAN DEMOCRACY.

THE ROYALS HARRY AND MEGHAN

What a week, beginning with Harry and Meghan’s jaw-dropping interview with Oprah, Meghan’s scorched-earth, no holes barred conversation that addressed, among other things, the alleged lack of support Meghan got when she went to the palace, her persistent suicidal ideations; the denial of security protection for the Sussexes’ child, Archie; and the royals’ apparent prenatal concerns over the skin tone of Meghan and Harry’s progeny. Oy vey is mir! But that wasn’t all. President Biden secured a huge win for his infant presidency with the passage of his 1.9 Trillion Great Society Remake that Republican lawmakers couldn’t stop and sent them to bed aghast. Governor Cuomo is accused of sexual harassment by more women. Halli and Matt discuss whether he can survive the onslaught or not. And Republican Senators are retiring in droves, which leaves the Senate where?

The Royals Harry and Meghan

Former deputy chief of staff to Senator Harry Reid, Adam Jentleson is the public affairs director at Democracy Forward, a columnist for GQ, and frequent commentator for CNN, New York Times, and elsewhere. In  KILL SWITCH: THE RISE OF THE MODERN SENATE AND THE CRIPPLING OF AMERICAN DEMOCRACY, Jentleson combines his behind-the-scenes experience with historical research to map out the Senate’s decline from a great deliberative body to the nexus of partisan gridlock. With the help of Mr. Jentleson, we take a look at the filibuster, it’s history, it’s effect on the decline of the Senate, it’s affect on American’s lives, minority rule, and what needs to change to return the American government to the vision of our Founding Fathers.

The Royals, Meghan and Harry, Oprah Winfrey, Piers Morgan, Andrew Cuomo, sexual harassment, the filibuster, President Biden’s Covid Relief Bill, the future of the Senate and we’re just getting started. It’s a packed The Halli Casser-Jayne Show, the podcast available at Halli Casser-Jayne dot com, on all your favorite apps, and on your Alexa device, too.
