Two crime writers join The Halli Casser-Jayne Show when New York Times bestselling author Sara Paretsky and author and Fox News anchor John Hook join Halli at her table to discuss their new books, Peretsky’s FALLOUT and Hook’s WHO KILLED BOB CRANE, the podcast posted at Halli Casser-Jayne dot com.

In her first novel for William Morrow, FALLOUT, everyone’s favorite crime novelist, Sara Paretsky is back with our favorite investigator V. I. Warshawski but in a completely new kind of mystery that will take Vic out of Chicago and into Kansas, searching for answers that time and prejudice may have long erased. The beloved mystery writer is the author of 19 previous novels and is one of only four living writers to receive both the Grand Master Award from the Mystery Writers of America and the Cartier Diamond Dagger from the Crime Writer’s Association. FALLOUT, just released is already on the New York Times Bestseller list.

CRIME WRITERSBob Crane, Hogan’s Heroes. Crane’s epithet might have read: Award-winning star of celebrated sitcom. But when the series ended, Crane’s career declined. The once beloved star took to the road, starring in plays nationwide. It was while he was on tour for the play Beginner’s Luck in June 1978, Crane was found bludgeoned to death in his Scottsdale apartment, a murder that today remains officially unsolved, Crane’s tawdry personal life, that of a sex addicted deviant who had learned the wonders of home video, and descended into a life of strip clubs, BDSM, and a closet homosexual exposed for his fans to see. A suspect, a trial, an acquittal, the mystery went on to spawn hundreds of articles, books, and movies over the past four decades. And there the story remained, yet another Hollywood cold case. Until, that is, John Hook a veteran news reporter and television anchor for over 30 years in Arizona, who has won more than a dozen Emmys for his reporting had his interest in the case rekindled, following an interview with Crane’s son Robert, Jr. It was that interview that sparked the idea to retest the blood evidence using modern DNA science. His journey to the heart of this mystery is chronicled in John Hook’s new book, WHO KILLED BOB CRANE, with a foreword by Robert Crane, Jr.

Crime, murder, mystery, fiction, Hogan’s Heroes with crime writers NY Times bestselling author of FALLOUT, Sara Paretsky and Fox News anchor and author of WHO KILLED BOB CRANE, John Hook all on The Halli Casser-Jayne Show at Halli Casser-Jayne dot com.

holocaust Remembrance Day

As we commemorate HOLOCAUST REMEMBRANCE DAY this week on The Halli Casser-Jayne Show we visit with two authors best known for their Holocaust historical fiction, New York Times bestselling author Pam Jenoff and New York Times Notable Author and PEN finalist Jessica Shattuck.

Holocaust Remembrance DayFor Pam Jenoff it all began with the astonishing success of her THE KOMMANDANT’S GIRL the World War II heartrending, Quill-nominated International Bestseller. Many successful books later she comes to us with her new title, THE ORPHAN’S TALE, already on the New York Times Bestseller List. THE ORPHAN’S TALE is set amid the unconventional world of a traveling circus, the novel bringing together two women—both refugees from their own pasts and each attempting to live under the radar during the Nazi incursion. Drawing on a little a little-known, real-life Nazi-run program, the Lebensborn Program, in which Jewish babies were ripped from their families and sent by train to concentration camps and the circuses of the era that sheltered Jews during the War, THE ORPHAN’S TALE exposes the light in the shadows of World War II.

Holocaust Remembrance DayAuthor Jessica Shattuck’s grandparents were Nazi’s. She admitted the truth in a recent New York Times op ed. “My grandparents were Nazis,” Shattuck wrote. “It took me until recently to be able to say — or write — this.” It was when Shattuck came upon a picture of her grandfather in his Nazi uniform that Shattuck could no longer deny the truth, even though she had had and loved her grandmother who Shattuck says did not seem temperamentally suited to hate. Understanding why and how this woman Shattuck knew and loved was swept up in a movement that became synonymous with evil led to Shattuck’s writing her gripping new novel THE WOMEN IN THE CASTLE (currently on the New York Times Bestseller List). Turbulent, disturbing, fraught, haunting, THE WOMEN IN THE CASTLE provides rarely seen insight into the lives of ordinary Germans during the Nazi era, providing a perspective rarely examined in the voluminous literature of the Second World War.

Holocaust Remembrance Day, Nazi, Germany, World War II, historical fiction, Jewish literature two interesting conversations with bestselling authors Pam Jenoff and Jessica Shattuck on The Halli Casser-Jayne Show, Wednesday, April 19, the podcast posted 3 pm ET. cAT 1 logo blackplus talkFor our international listeners, today we announce that The Halli Casser-Jayne Show will now be broadcast on a new international station for your listening pleasure.

Beginning Saturday, May 17 at 11 pm CEST/5 pm EST, Radio Catalonia will begin broadcasting The Halli Casser-Jayne Show. Radio Catalonia is the result of the creative effort of  businessman and singing sensation Norman Jay. For over 40 years, Norman Jay lived and worked in Manchester, England travelling The Northern Night clubs. Thirteen years ago, he decided he wanted a new life and said goodbye to the city. Off he went to Spain where he bought a parcel of land in Rural Catalonia, and began construction of a new home. Thirteen years and two houses later he’s back to singing, writing and now, producing radio. It all happens from a remote farmhouse with a solar powered studio.

“I was tired of listening to badly produced local radio, in Catalan, the local language,” Norman Jay explained. “So, I went to the local radio station and convinced them to allow the first English-speaking presenter to broadcast. We began broadcasting music. And now we are excited to begin our expansion into talk radio with veteran broadcaster Halli Casser-Jayne and The Halli Casser-Jayne Show.”

Geared for the ex-pat community in the region, including the Barcelona area, English speaking listeners will get a taste of home with talk radio with The Halli Casser-Jayne Show.

stuck hi-res52weeksbookSo who among us hasn’t been there wedged…trapped…caught…STUCK? You know, when life becomes a routine and every day is just like the day before? When the color of the sky isn’t quite as blue as you thought it used to be, and the tickle of the sun’s warmth on your skin doesn’t seem quite so magical?

Then one day, or is it over many, you realize that you are, in fact, stuck. Life is running you rather than you running your life. A certain inertia seems to have set in and just getting out of the house is a chore. The mood: apathetic…torpid…lethargic…indifferent…oy.

You know that it is time to shake things up, rattle the brain, roll the mind, but just thinking about change is enough to send you back to bed. Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaawn!

Meet four women who found themselves in the State of Stuck but didn’t take it lying down. Instead they hopped, skipped and jumped themselves out of their doldrums and into a year of discovery.

To some they had it all. Pam Godwin: wife, mom, New York City schoolteacher and then…; Karen Amster-Young: Star public relations specialist, wife, mom, successful writer and then…; Jennifer Gardner Trulson: wife, mom, Harvard Law graduate and then…; Nadia Stieglitz: European-born and raised, wife, mom, creative director in publishing, great life in New York City and then…

Recently, these four fascinating women shared their inspiring stories on The Halli Casser-Jayne Show, Talk Radio for Fine Minds, a fun-filled, honest, insightful, and sometimes, gut-wrenching segment you don’t want to miss. And do pick up a copy of their book, The 52 Weeks. It is chock-full of ideas, expert advice, inspiration, and a host of resources to help you shake, rattle and roll yourselves to a better you, just in time for Spring.

Scott and Zelda Fitzgerald was author of the compelling new novel Beautiful Fools, The Last Affair of Zelda and F. Scott Fitzgerald. Here is what the prestigious The Times Literary Supplement had to say about Spargo’s book: “This is historical fiction at its best, imaginatively filling the gaps and bringing us intimately into a portrait of a marriage.”

egdaily2We were so sorry to see our friend E.G. Daily booted off NBC’s The Voice this week. She is such a great lady, going for the gold at age 52, up against the young ones, pursuing that dream of success, refusing to be deterred by her age.

I interviewed E.G. a couple of weeks ago, to many of my listener’s surprise, maybe even to my own. When her publicist called me and asked me to talk to E.G. I hesitated because we are, after all, “Talk Radio for Fine Minds” and pop culture really isn’t our thing on The Halli Casser-Jayne Show. But then I caught my thought and asked myself “What the heck does that mean?” I had to chuckle at my own snobbery. Honestly. A person can start to believe their own hype, far too easily.

“I don’t watch The Voice,” I said, “so send over some background and a video so I can see what this woman is all about.” Admittedly, I didn’t have a pretty picture in my head of a 52 year old trying to look young enough to play with the young ones on The Voice.

It wasn’t a pretty picture of E.G. that caught my attention, though adorable she is. E.G. Daily got me when I played the video of her performance before the judges on The Voice when she wowed with her performance of the song Faith Hill made famous “Breathe.” What a range! What tone! What heart! Move over Faith Hill and Janis Joplin. That rasp in her voice, oh my!

So it was that it was raw, unequivocal talent that earned E.G. Daily her spot on The Halli Casser-Jayne Show.

In the end it turned out that E.G. Daily is every bit suited for Talk Radio for Fine Minds. Smart, cunning, talented, brutally honest, forthcoming, funny and warm are just a few of the words I would use to describe E.G. Daily.

E.G. Daily has been around the block. She has reinvented herself a gazillion times in her 52 years. She has a dream and she has pursued it and no doubt, even after being booted off The Voice, she will continue to go after that dream. And if need be, she will surely reinvent herself. What E.G. Daily won’t ever do, is quit.

So, here’s to the next chapter, E.G. Daily. Thanks for reminding us all to never lose sight of our dreams.

Have a listen to my conversation with E.G. Daily on The Halli Casser-Jayne Show, Talk Radio for Fine Minds and dream your dream!

Yesterday, I interviewed BBC America’s “Copper” star Ato Essandoh. What a delight! It’s always interesting to watch an actor’s work and read his press from his PR team and what’s out there on the web about them. But all the background work you do as an interviewer never fully prepares you for who you’re going to meet on show day.

Honestly, I’m rarely disappointed by the people I interview on my show, The Halli Casser-Jayne Show, Talk Radio for Fine Minds, airing Wednesdays, 3 pm ET available  to download FREE from iTunes @ and for your mobile connection find us at They may not be who I thought they were going to be, but mostly, they are terrific people.

Some of my guests prove delightful, as Ato Essandoh did. If you listen to the interview, and I hope that you will, some might say that Halli and Ato played well together in the interview sandbox. We did! It was a seamless conversation that was funny, revealing, candid, surprising, and soulful. In my opinion, Ato Essandoh is the real deal. He’s risen pretty high in a short amount of time in his chosen field of acting, and for good reason, as you will discover when you listen to the interview.

Stay tuned until the end of the hour, when Ato gives us a hint about Copper’s season finale airing this Sunday at 10 pm ET on BBC America. And be sure to stay-tuned to the second half-hour when Ato bursts into song doing an amazing … well, you’ll have to wait and listen to the whole show to see which performer he brilliantly mimics!

Thanks Ato Essandoh. You are, as I said above, a pleasure!
