MEMOIRS: FIONA LEWIS MALACHY MCCOURT

Written by Halli Casser-Jayne on . Posted in HC-J Blog

memoirs“Memoirs are a well-known form of fiction,” or so said Irish writer Frank Harris. He was kidding, of course, right?! This week on The Halli Casser-Jayne Show Halli brings you two delightful guests the always charming Irish-American actor, writer, politician and the author of a hilarious, smart and sassy, insightful new memoir DEATH NEED NOT BE FATAL, Malachy McCourt. And also joining Halli at her table model, actress, writer Fiona Lewis the author of a fun, fascinating and candid new memoir MISTAKES WERE MADE (some in French).

Model, actress, writer and raconteur, Fiona Lewis has led the life of which dreams are made. Smart, savvy beautiful, her acting credits include Roman Polanski’s ‘The Vampire Killers’, Ken Russell’s ‘Lisztomania’, and Brian de Palma’s ‘The Fury’. She is the author of the novel BETWEEN MEN, her writing appearing in the New Yorker, The Observer and the Los Angeles Times. And, she may be, which she candidly admits, the only woman in America who has written for the New Yorker and posed for Playboy. One marriage didn’t work, one has, and her list of friends is a Who’s Who of international royalty. But then, just when life seemed to be singing along just famously, Fiona Lewis woke up one morning, asking herself that proverbial question songstress Peggy Lee once asked: “Is that all there is?” And then she met a French chateau, and answers to her own questions came, chronicled in her new memoir MISTAKES WERE MADE (some in French).

memoirsBefore his brother Frank wrote ANGELA’S ASHES, Malachy was the famous McCourt. Malachy was a bon vivant actor, talk show host, saloon owner —  he practically invented the singles bar; was a pioneer in talk radio, a soap opera star, a best-selling author and a gold smuggler and he was once a candidate for governor of the state of New York. Known as a professional Irishman, he was a regular on the Tonight Show. Now he is the last of  Angela’s children, the others long dead and gone. That, and given that he is Irish, make Frank’s younger brother a bit of an expert on death, death the subject of his latest book, DEATH NEED NOT BE FATAL. But not to worry, no grim reaper here, DEATH NEED NOT BE FINAL is a hilarious, eye-opening, heretical, smart and sassy look at all things death and dying as only an Irishman could write that will take you from laughter to tears, brotherhood, poverty, history, the famous — Bill Clinton, John Wayne, Kirk Douglas, Merv Griffin are just a few names that crop up in this oh, so honest new memoir.

Memoirs, Hollywood, film, Angela’s Ashes, romance, wisdom, death and dying, humor, politics, living life to the fullest, we have it all on The Halli Caser-Jayne Show at Halli Casser-Jayne dot com.

THAT STATE OF STUCK

Written by Halli Casser-Jayne on . Posted in HC-J Blog

stuck hi-res52weeksbookSo who among us hasn’t been there wedged…trapped…caught…STUCK? You know, when life becomes a routine and every day is just like the day before? When the color of the sky isn’t quite as blue as you thought it used to be, and the tickle of the sun’s warmth on your skin doesn’t seem quite so magical?

Then one day, or is it over many, you realize that you are, in fact, stuck. Life is running you rather than you running your life. A certain inertia seems to have set in and just getting out of the house is a chore. The mood: apathetic…torpid…lethargic…indifferent…oy.

You know that it is time to shake things up, rattle the brain, roll the mind, but just thinking about change is enough to send you back to bed. Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaawn!

Meet four women who found themselves in the State of Stuck but didn’t take it lying down. Instead they hopped, skipped and jumped themselves out of their doldrums and into a year of discovery.

To some they had it all. Pam Godwin: wife, mom, New York City schoolteacher and then…; Karen Amster-Young: Star public relations specialist, wife, mom, successful writer and then…; Jennifer Gardner Trulson: wife, mom, Harvard Law graduate and then…; Nadia Stieglitz: European-born and raised, wife, mom, creative director in publishing, great life in New York City and then…

Recently, these four fascinating women shared their inspiring stories on The Halli Casser-Jayne Show, Talk Radio for Fine Minds, a fun-filled, honest, insightful, and sometimes, gut-wrenching segment you don’t want to miss. And do pick up a copy of their book, The 52 Weeks. It is chock-full of ideas, expert advice, inspiration, and a host of resources to help you shake, rattle and roll yourselves to a better you, just in time for Spring.
